Common questions.
What is the difference between an MCB, MCCB, RCCB and RCBO?
An MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) trips on overload and short circuit on final circuits, typically up to 63–125 A. An MCCB (Moulded Case Circuit Breaker) does the same job at higher currents for main and industrial panels, often with an adjustable trip. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) trips on earth leakage to protect people from electric shock, but gives no overload protection. An RCBO combines an RCCB and an MCB in one device.
Is an RCCB necessary in a house?
It is strongly recommended. An MCB protects the wiring, but only an RCCB (or RCBO) detects the small leakage current that flows when someone touches a live fault, and cuts the supply in a fraction of a second. It matters most on circuits feeding bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor sockets.
What is the difference between an RCCB and an ELCB?
ELCB is the older name, usually for a voltage-operated device that depended on a good earth connection to work. An RCCB is current-operated: it compares the current going out on the live wire with the current returning on the neutral and trips on any difference, which makes it more reliable. Modern installations use RCCBs or RCBOs.
Which breaker size do I need for a 1.5-ton AC or an electric geyser?
As a typical guide, a 1.5-ton AC on its own circuit uses a 16–20 A MCB, preferably C-curve so it rides through the compressor's starting surge; an electric geyser commonly uses 20 A. Remember that a breaker protects the cable, not the appliance: a 20 A MCB needs at least 7/29 cable behind it, never 3/29. Have your electrician match breaker and cable to the actual load.
What is a distribution board (DB box)?
It is the enclosure where the incoming supply is split into separate circuits, each protected by its own breaker — typically a main switch or MCCB, an RCCB for shock protection, and one MCB per circuit.
What is the price of an MCB in Pakistan?
It depends on the brand, current rating (from 6 A to 63 A), number of poles and breaking capacity. WhatsApp 0306 4758850 with the brand, amps and quantity for today's price.
